Inbound Receiving
Receive shipments with a 6-state pallet lifecycle, scan items, handle exceptions, and trigger putaway.
Why this matters
For 3PLs handling multiple clients, accurate receiving is the foundation of trust. Every miscount erodes margin and client confidence. Scan-driven receiving with a fully-tracked pallet lifecycle catches problems at the dock door — not weeks later during a cycle count. Every pallet has a place in the lifecycle and a timestamp at every transition.

Overview
How Inbound Receiving works
Inbound Receiving is the entry point for all goods arriving at the warehouse. It manages the full lifecycle from shipment scheduling through dock arrival, pallet-level receiving, barcode scanning, exception handling, and putaway task generation.
Each pallet moves through a six-state lifecycle: expected → arrived → receiving → putaway → emptied → removed. Every transition is timestamped, and a daily integrity check verifies that no pallet has drifted into an inconsistent state.
Operators can scan barcodes to identify items or use manual SKU entry mode. The system automatically resolves barcodes against the product catalog and raises exceptions for unknown items, quantity mismatches, or damaged goods. Each scan is recorded as an immutable receiving event.
Once receiving is complete, the system generates putaway tasks that direct workers to move pallets from the staging area to their assigned storage locations based on zone affinity, client preferences, and available capacity.
