Order & Fulfillment 3PL eCom Dist

Partial Order Splitting

Automatically splits orders when inventory is spread across multiple warehouses.

Why this matters

A single out-of-stock SKU shouldn't hold up an entire order. Partial splitting means you ship what you can today and backorder the rest — maximizing fulfillment velocity and customer satisfaction. The linked badge keeps operators aware of the relationship so nothing falls through the cracks.

Overview

How Partial Order Splitting works

Partial Order Splitting ensures that inventory shortages don't block fulfillable lines. When auto-allocation detects that some order lines have sufficient stock but others don't, it automatically splits the order into two linked orders.

The original order keeps the lines that can be fully allocated and advances to 'picking' status with reservations and pick tasks generated. A new backorder is created containing the shorted lines, linked to the original via a parent-child relationship.

Operators see a linked-order badge on both records so the relationship is always visible from either side.
